CAR Management (Corridor Access Request)

The CAR process can be a bit painful at times, so we'll take care of it for you.

If you're planning any work or activity that affects the normal operation of the road, footpath or berm, you must apply for a Corridor Access Request (CAR).A CAR is a permit from the road controlling authority (usually the local council or NZTA). It makes sure worksites in the road corridor meet local requirements and are as safe as possible for workers, motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Examples of activities that need a CAR:

- Placing a skip bin or container on the berm

- Installing a new stormwater drain that connects into the road corridor

- Using or parking machinery such as cranes, cherry pickers or water blasters in the road corridor

- Working on power poles

- Digging, drilling or resurfacingIn short, any activity that affects the normal operation of the road, footpath or berm anywhere within the road corridor.

### How it works1. 

**Send us your details.

** Fill in our, once we've had a quick read, we'll give you a call.

**We design your TMP.** Once we have all the information, we'll prepare your Traffic Management Plan.

**We submit your CAR.** Once the TMP is finalised, we'll lodge it in the CAR system and you'll get an email confirming it's been submitted. Approval usually takes 3–15 working days, depending on the council.

### Good to know- The council sometimes asks for more information. If they do, we'll be in touch, update the TMP and resubmit it.

- Once your TMP is approved, you can carry out the work on the approved dates.

- We'll send you a copy of the approved TMP to pass on to your STMS.

- We'll notify the start and finish of works in the CAR system for you.
